History
Serving the Latin Catholics of Egypt, this Roman Catholic Apostolic vicariate (a missionary ordinariate), known in full as Alexandria of Egypt-Heliopolis-Port Said (Latin: Vicariatus Apostolicus Alexandrinus), takes its name from its cathedral see in Alexandria, a port city that was once a Catholic patriarchate. The vicariate is exempt: it belongs to no ecclesiastical province and depends directly on the Holy See.
