History
In Rio Grande do Sul state, in southernmost Brazil, the Diocese of Montenegro (Latin: Dioecesis Nigromontana) is a Latin suffragan of its mother see, the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Porto Alegre in the state capital. Its episcopal seat, the Catedral de São João Batista in the city of Montenegro, is dedicated to John the Baptist.
