The cathedral

Cathedrale Saint-Hyacinthe-le-Confesseur stands in Saint-Hyacinthe, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

Its co-cathedral is Eglise Saint-Matthieu, Beloeil.

On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.

History

A Latin rite suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Sherbrooke in predominantly francophone Quebec, the Diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe has its episcopal seat at the Cathédrale Saint-Hyacinthe-le-Confesseur in Saint-Hyacinthe, dedicated to the diocesan patron, Hyacinth the Confessor of Poland. A former cathedral survives in Beloeil, Quebec: the decommissioned Église Saint-Matthieu, dedicated to the Evangelist Matthew.
