Latin rite diocese in Saxony with its seat in Dresden, the successor of the medieval see of Meissen. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Berlin. Its cathedral is the Katedrale Ss. Trinitatis, the former Catholic Court Church of Saxony built 1739 to 1755.

History
Seated in Dresden and suffragan to the Archdiocese of Berlin, the Diocese of Dresden-Meissen (Latin: Dioecesis Dresdensis-Misnensis; German: Bistum Dresden-Meißen) traces its origins to the Bishopric of Meissen (German: Bistum Meißen), founded in 968. That see was dissolved in 1539 amid the Protestant Reformation, reestablished in 1921, and given its present name, Dresden-Meissen, in 1980. Its central church today is Dresden Cathedral, once the Catholic Church of the Court of Saxony Sanctissimae Trinitatis, raised between 1739 and 1755 under Elector Frederick Augustus II. Benno of Meissen is the diocesan patron.
