History
One of the four suffragans in the ecclesiastical province of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Santiago de Compostela, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lugo (Latin: Dioecesis Lucensis in Hispania) is a Latin Church see of the Catholic Church in Galicia, north-western Spain. Its episcopal seat is the Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Carmel) in Lugo city, dedicated to Our Lady of Carmel. The diocese also contains a World Heritage Site, the Cistercian Monastery of Santa María at Sobrado dos Monxes, A Coruña, Galicia.
