The Diocese of Le Puy-en-Velay is a Latin rite diocese covering the Haute-Loire department in south-central France, with origins in the 3rd century. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Clermont. Its seat is the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Le Puy-en-Velay, an ancient Marian pilgrimage shrine and starting point of the Via Podiensis to Santiago de Compostela.

History
The whole Department of Haute-Loire, in the Region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, falls within the Diocese of Le Puy-en-Velay (Latin: Dioecesis Aniciensis; French: Diocèse du Puy-en-Velay [djɔsɛz dy pɥi ɑ̃ vəlɛ]), a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in France. Bourges was its first metropolitan, the see having begun as a suffragan subordinate to that archdiocese, but by the 11th century Le Puy answered directly to the papacy as its suffragan.
