History

Based in the Mexican city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, the Archdiocese of Guadalajara (Latin: Archidioecesis Guadalaiarensis) is a Latin Catholic archdiocese covering 20,827 km² (8,044 squar miles). Erected on 13 July 1548 from territory separated from the then Diocese of Michoacán, it was raised to an archdiocese on 26 January 1863. As a metropolitan see it presides over the suffragan sees of Aguascalientes, Autlán, Ciudad Guzmán, Colima, Jesús Maria del Nayar (a Territorial Prelature), San Juan de los Lagos and Tepic.
