History
The Archdiocese of Split-Makarska (Latin: Archidioecesis Spalatensis-Macarscensis; Croatian: Splitsko-makarska nadbiskupija), a Latin metropolitan archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Croatia and Montenegro, traces its origins to a diocese established in the 3rd century AD, raised to an archdiocese and metropolitan see in the 10th century. The modern diocese dates to 1828, when the historical archdiocese of Salona was joined with the Diocese of Makarska; in 1969 it was again elevated as an archdiocese and metropolitan see, restoring the earlier status of the archdiocese of Split, another name by which it is known. It was also once called Spalato-Macarsca.
