History
Pope John Paul II erected the Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Adilabad on 23 July 1999. Its first bishop, Mar Joseph Kunnath CMI, received episcopal ordination on 6 October 1999, the same occasion on which the diocese was inaugurated.
