Syro-Malankara Catholic eparchy in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, India, erected by Pope Benedict XVI on 25 January 2010 from the Major Archeparchy of Trivandrum, of which it is a suffragan. Its seat is St. Peter's Cathedral in Pathanamthitta, serving about 40,600 Malankara-rite Catholics (2010).

History

Created by Pope Benedict XVI on 25 January 2010, the Eparchy of Pathanamthitta is a Syro-Malankara Catholic Church eparchy of the Catholic Church in Kerala, India. Yoohanon Chrysostom became the first eparch, and St. Peter’s Malankara Catholic Church in the episcopal see of Pathanamthitta serves as the cathedral church. The eparchy is a suffragan within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archeparchy of Trivandrum.
