History

On 11 April 2016, Pope Francis erected this diocese in the Indian state of Orissa (Odisha), taking its territory from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Berhampur (in Berhampur, India). Headquartered in the see city of Rayagada, it will be a suffragan see in the Province of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar, based in the cities of Cuttack and the provincial capital of Bhubaneswar.
