The Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Petra and Philadelphia (Byzantine rite) serves Melkite faithful in Jordan from its seat in Amman, the ancient Philadelphia; the modern archeparchy was erected on 2 May 1932. It is subject to the Melkite Patriarchate of Antioch and counts about 26,000 Catholics (2023). Archbishop Joseph Gebara has led the see since his election on 20 February 2018.
