Latin-rite apostolic prefecture covering all of Mongolia, established as a mission sui iuris in 1992 after the fall of communism and elevated to an apostolic prefecture on 8 July 2002. Its principal church is the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in Ulaanbaatar, and it is led by Cardinal Giorgio Marengo, I.M.C.

History
All of Mongolia falls within a single Roman Catholic Latin jurisdiction, the Apostolic Prefecture of Ulaanbaatar (Latin: Praefectura Apostolica Ulaanbaatarensis), a pre-diocesan missionary territory. Its cathedral episcopal see is the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Ulaanbaatar, the nation's capital, and it is exempt, directly subject to the Holy See rather than part of any ecclesiastical province. A milestone came on 28 August 2016, when the prefecture celebrated the ordination of the first native Mongolian priest by Msgr. Wenceslao Padilla; other seminarians are currently studying in South Korea.
