History
Along California's Central Coast, the Diocese of Monterey in California (Latin: Dioecesis Montereyensis in California) takes in Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo and Santa Cruz counties. Its mother church is the Cathedral of San Carlos Borromeo in Monterey. Seven of California's 21 Franciscan missions stand within its borders, more than in any other California diocese.
