History
The Diocese of La Paz en la Baja California Sur (Latin: Dioecesis Paciensis in California Inferiori Meridionali) was erected on 21 March 1988. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Hermosillo until 25 November 2006, it now belongs to the province of the Archdiocese of Tijuana. La Paz has a longer episcopal history: between 1874 and 1939 it was the seat of the apostolic vicariate of Baja California, which later became the present Diocese of Tijuana, and in 1957 it became the seat of the apostolic prefecture of La Paz, raised to an apostolic vicariate in 1976 and to a diocese in 1988.
