The Diocese of Taiohae o Tefenuaenata is a Latin rite diocese covering the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Papeete. Erected in 1848 as the Vicariate Apostolic of the Marquesas Islands, it became a diocese in 1966 and received its present name in 1974. Its seat is Notre-Dame Cathedral in Taiohae on Nuku Hiva.

History
A Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in French Polynesia, the Diocese of Taiohae (also Tefenuaenata, or Hakapehi; Latin: Dioecesis Taiohaënus seu Humanae Telluris; French: Diocèse de Taiohae ou Tefenuaenata) is a suffragan within the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Papeete, while still depending on the missionary Roman Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. Its cathedral episcopal see, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Îles Marquises, dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus, stands at Taiohae on Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands (French: îles Marquises).
