History
The province of Southern Leyte and six municipalities of Leyte belong to the Diocese of Maasin (Latin: Dioecesis Maasinensis), a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. Erected in 1968 from the Archdiocese of Palo, it has undergone no jurisdictional changes and stands today as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cebu. Precioso Cantillas, appointed in 1998, serves as its current bishop.
