History
The whole island of Biliran, together with the four towns at the northwestern tip of Leyte Province, forms the territory of the Diocese of Naval (Latin: Dioecesis Navaliensis), a Roman Rite diocese of the Latin Church in the Philippines with its cathedral at Naval, Biliran in the Eastern Visayas. Erected in 1988 from territory of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Palo, it remains a suffragan of that archdiocese. Filomeno Bactol served as the first appointed bishop (1988-2017).
