The cathedral

Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in Białystok, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

Its co-cathedral is Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.

The province of Bialystok (suffragans: Drohiczyn, Lomza)

This see is the metropolitan of its province.

On how the Church is ordered into provinces, see the diocese.

History

Two suffragan dioceses answer to the metropolitan see of Białystok, a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Podlaskie Voivodeship, Northeastern Poland (Latin: Bialostocen(sis); Belarusian: Беластоцкая архідыяцэзія, romanized: Biełastockaja archidyjacezia). Its cathedral archiepiscopal see, the Bazylika Archikatedralna Wniebowzięcia NMP, holds the rank of minor basilica and stands in the episcopal city of Białystok.
