A see whose chair stands empty is recorded as vacant rather than filled with a guess. On what a bishop is, see the bishop.

The cathedral

Our Lady Queen of Iasi Cathedral stands in Iaşi, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

Its co-cathedral is Assumption of Mary Church, Iasi.

History

Romanian Western Moldavia is the territory of the Diocese of Iași (Latin: Dioecesis Iassiensis; Romanian: Episcopia Romano-Catolică de Iași; Hungarian: Jászvásári Egyházmegye; Polish: Diecezja Jassy), a Latin Church diocese whose episcopal see is the city of Iași. It belongs to the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Bucharest. Iosif Păuleț has led the diocese since 2019, succeeding Petru Gherghel, who was bishop from 1990 to 2019 and Apostolic Administrator before that from 1978. Aurel Percă, Titular Bishop of Mauriana and auxiliary bishop since 1999, was named Archbishop of Bucharest in 2019.
