The bishop

Archbishop
Benjamin Marc Balthason Ramaroson, C.M.

A see whose chair stands empty is recorded as vacant rather than filled with a guess. On what a bishop is, see the bishop.

The cathedral

Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Antsiranana stands in Antsiranana, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.

The province of Antsiranana

This see is the metropolitan of its province.

History

One of Madagascar's five metropolitan Latin archdioceses, Antsiranana heads its own ecclesiastical province while remaining subject to the missionary Roman Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. The archbishop's seat is the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Antsiranana, dedicated to the Sacred Heart. An Anglican Bishop of Antsiranana also exists, within the Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean.
