Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese of the Austrian capital, a diocese since 1469, whose province includes Eisenstadt, Linz and Sankt Poelten. Its seat is St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom) in Vienna. Josef Gruenwidl, appointed by Pope Leo XIV on 17 October 2025 and ordained and installed on 24 January 2026, is the 33rd Archbishop of Vienna, succeeding Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn.

History
Founded as the Diocese of Vienna on 18 January 1469 out of the Diocese of Passau, and raised to an archdiocese on 1 June 1722, Vienna (Latin: Archidioecesis Viennensis) is a Latin Church archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Austria. Its episcopal seat is the cathedral of St. Stephen in Vienna, and as metropolitan it presides over three suffragan sees: the dioceses of Eisenstadt, Linz, and Sankt Pölten.
