The Diocese of Hongdong (Hungtung) is a Latin rite diocese in Shanxi, China, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Taiyuan, with its seat at the Cathedral of Hongtong. Peter Liu Gen-zhu serves as bishop; he was the second bishop ordained with the approval of both the Holy See and the Chinese government under the 2018 provisional agreement.

History

Hongdong, a city in the Chinese province of Shanxi, gives its name to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hongdong/Hungtung (Latin: Homtomen(sis); Chinese: 洪洞, pinyin Hóngtóng). The diocese belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Taiyuan.
