Patriarchal see of the Coptic Catholic Church, first established as the Patriarchate of Alexandria on 15 August 1824, restored in 1895 and definitively in 1947. Though titled Alexandria, the patriarch resides in Cairo at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Egypt; it is the sole metropolitan see of the Coptic Catholic Church with suffragan eparchies across Egypt. Patriarch Ibrahim Isaac Sidrak was elected on 15 January 2013.

History

The sole metropolitan see of the Coptic Catholic Church, a sui iuris particular church in full communion with the Holy See of the Catholic Church, is the Coptic Catholic Patriarchate of Alexandria. Worship follows the Alexandrian Rite in the Coptic language, and the patriarchate's archbishop is the superior of all Coptic Catholic dioceses, which lie in and around Egypt. Two cathedrals serve the patriarchate, both within Egypt: Our Lady of Egypt in Cairo, the national capital, and the Cathedral of the Resurrection in Alexandria.
