The Archdiocese of Reims is a Latin rite metropolitan archdiocese in northeastern France, erected in the 3rd century; its Cathedral of Notre Dame of Reims was the coronation church of the kings of France, and the see heads the ecclesiastical province of Reims. The archbishop is Most Rev. Eric de Moulins-Beaufort, until 2025 president of the French bishops conference.

History

Founded as a diocese around 250 by Sixtus of Reims and raised to an archdiocese around 750, the Archdiocese of Reims or Rheims (Latin: Archidiœcesis Remensis; French: Archidiocèse de Reims) is a Latin Church archdiocese of the Catholic Church in France. In 1023 Archbishop Ebles acquired the Countship of Reims and so became a prince-bishop, and in 1089 the archbishop received the title "primate of Gallia Belgica". Between 1060 and 1170 the see was elevated to a duchy and a peerage.
