The Archdiocese of Liverpool is a Latin rite metropolitan archdiocese covering Merseyside, parts of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, and the Isle of Man. Erected as a diocese in 1850 at the restoration of the hierarchy, it was elevated to an archdiocese in 1911 and heads the northern Province of Liverpool. Its seat is the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool, with St Mary of the Isle (Isle of Man) as co-cathedral.

History

The Isle of Man and part of North West England fall within the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Liverpool (Latin: Archidioecesis Metropolitae Liverpolitana), a Latin Church archdiocese of the Catholic Church. Its episcopal see is Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, and it stands at the centre of the Ecclesiastical Province of Liverpool, which covers the north of England together with the Isle of Man.
