The Diocese of Portsmouth is a Latin rite diocese covering Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands and parts of Berkshire, Dorset and Oxfordshire in England, erected on 19 May 1882 from the western portion of the Diocese of Southwark. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Southwark. Its seat is the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist in Portsmouth.

History
The historic counties of Hampshire and Berkshire in England, together with the Channel Islands, make up the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth (Latin: Dioecesis Portus Magni), a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church. St John's Cathedral in Portsmouth is the episcopal see, headed by the Bishop of Portsmouth. The diocese belongs to the metropolitan Province of Southwark, whose reach covers all of the far South of England as well as the Channel Islands.
