The Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Basra is a non-metropolitan archeparchy of the Chaldean Catholic Church in southern Iraq, restored on 17 January 1954 from territory of the Patriarchate of Baghdad and tracing its roots to the ancient see of Perat-Maishan (c. 280 AD). It is directly subject to the Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon, without suffragans. Its cathedral is the Cathedral of Our Lady in Basra.

History

In southern Iraq, the Chaldean Catholic Church maintains the Archeparchy (or Archdiocese) of Basra (or Bassorah), a non-metropolitan archeparchy of the Syro-Oriental Rite worshipping in the Syriac or Aramaic language. Without suffragans of its own, it is subject to the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon. The Cathedral of Our Lady in Al Basrah serves as its episcopal see.
