The Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Mosul and Aqra in northern Iraq unites the see of Mosul, elevated to archeparchy by Pope Paul VI on 14 February 1967 and formerly the Chaldean patriarchal seat (1760-1947), with the Eparchy of Aqra. Its cathedral is St. Paul's Cathedral in Mosul; the city's churches suffered heavily under war and the 2014-2017 ISIS occupation. Archbishop Najib Mikhael Moussa, O.P., was appointed on 22 December 2018.

History

The northern Iraqi city of Mosul is the seat of the Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Mosul (Latin: Archieparchia Mausiliensis Chaldaeorum), a diocese of the Chaldean Catholic Church whose faithful are ethnic Assyrians speaking Neo-Aramaic. The diocese covers the city of Mosul and its territory is divided among 12 parishes. On February 14, 1967, Pope Paul VI raised the diocese to the rank of Archeparchy of Mosul. Mar Paulos Faraj Rahho served as ordinary until his death in early 2008.
