Latin rite diocese seated in Leon, Nicaragua, erected on 3 November 1534, one of the oldest sees in the Americas. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Managua and its seat is the Catedral Basilica de la Asuncion (Leon Cathedral), a UNESCO World Heritage site.

History

Dating to 3 November 1534, the Roman Catholic Diocese of León in Nicaragua is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Managua. A separate Diocese of Nicaragua, with its own Bishop of Nicaragua, also exists in the Anglican Church in Central America.
