Latin rite metropolitan archdiocese for northeastern Thailand, erected in 1950 as the Vicariate Apostolic of Thare from the Vicariate Apostolic of Laos and elevated to archdiocese on 18 December 1965. Its seat is the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel in Tha Rae, with the Co-Cathedral of St. Anne in Nakhon Phanom; it heads Thailand's second ecclesiastical province.
