Latin rite diocese in western Zulia state, Venezuela, along the Colombian border, with its see at Machiques. Established 26 May 1943 as an apostolic vicariate by Pope Pius XII and elevated to a full diocese by Pope Benedict XVI on 9 April 2011; it is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Maracaibo. Its cathedral is the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Machiques.
