Campania Bishops meet 700 priests at Pompei

About 700 priests from the dioceses of Campania met with their bishops on October 6 at the Sanctuary of Pompeii for a regional meeting. Promoted by the Campania Episcopal Conference, the gathering focused on the current lived experience of the priesthood, including its challenges and spiritual resources.

Archbishop Erio Castellucci of Modena-Nonantola and Carpi delivered a report addressing the difficulties facing priests today, such as declining church participation, increasing administrative burdens, and relational difficulties.

The event included a session on financial support for the Church. Don Antonio Pisani, regional coordinator for the committee to promote economic support for the Catholic Church, and Bishop Vincenzo Calvosa spoke about the importance of the 8xmille tax allocation. This mechanism allows taxpayers to direct a portion of their income tax to support worship, pastoral needs, clergy sustenance, and charitable works.
