An Apartment, Car and Trip: Uruguay Holds Raffle to Help Fund Pope’s Visit

Uruguayan organizers are holding a raffle to help cover the logistical costs of the upcoming papal visit. The fundraiser aims to pay for expenses such as lighting, sound, stages, security, and transportation for the three major events planned in the country.

Bishop Milton Tróccoli, president of the Uruguayan Episcopal Conference, said that while a nationwide collection received a good response, public donations will not cover the estimated $2.7 million budget. Organizers have made 40,000 tickets available for approximately $50 each through the official website, papaleonuruguay.uy. The raffle is open to participants worldwide.

Prizes include an apartment, 10 cars, and three trips to Rome for two people. The drawing is scheduled for December 8. Although free tickets for the three papal events have already sold out and volunteers are available, Bishop Tróccoli noted that funding remains essential to ensure all attendees can participate fully.
