Archbishop Broglio Stands United with Brother Bishops in Virginia on November Ballot Initiatives

Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, issued a letter to Catholic voters in Virginia urging them to vote against two proposed state constitutional amendments on the November 3 ballot.

Broglio expressed solidarity with Bishop Michael Burbidge of Arlington and Bishop Barry Knestout of Richmond regarding the initiatives. He advised voters to reject Issue 1, which seeks to create a fundamental right to abortion, and Issue 2, which seeks to redefine the meaning of marriage.

The Archbishop also expressed support for Issue 3, which would restore voting rights to former convicts after their release from prison. While describing the third initiative as a matter of prudential judgment, he stated that he favors the measure because all people depend on divine mercy.
