St. William Church receives $850,000 bequest from Joan Elizabeth Kennedy
First source report
St. William Church in Murphy received a bequest of more than $850,000 from parishioner Joan Elizabeth Kennedy to fund facility repairs and establish an endowment.
The funds have already enabled the refurbishment of the Seiglie Center, the parish education building, which received a new HVAC system and kitchen appliances in time for upcoming faith formation classes. Additional work is currently underway to upgrade the sanctuary, flooring, and roof, as well as the center's kitchen.
Father Augustine Ogar, M.S.P., stated that the gift allows the parish to create a new named endowment fund in Kennedy's honor to support its long-term financial needs. Father Ogar noted that addressing overdue maintenance and supporting parish growth have been priorities since his arrival in 2025. Kennedy died on Nov. 1, 2024.
