Cardinal Reina calls on Rome's parishes to evangelize amid family breakdown, housing crisis (Vatican News)

Cardinal Baldassare Reina told priests in Rome to reach out to Catholics who no longer attend parish services. In a September 17 interview, the vicar general for the Diocese of Rome said that parish structures often cause clergy to focus only on those already attending church. He stated that the missionary mandate requires reaching people beyond parish boundaries.

Reina also noted that rising housing costs and family instability are creating new challenges for the community. He said market forces are driving rent prices beyond the reach of average salaries, making it difficult for single-income households to afford housing. He also identified drug addiction and the breakdown of the family as significant issues facing the region.
