Card. Reina to open Lorenzo Cuneo beatification cause

Cardinal Baldassare Reina will preside over the opening of the diocesan inquiry into the life and virtues of Lorenzo Cuneo on November 6. The session is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in the Sala della Conciliazione at the Lateran Apostolic Palace.

Cuneo was a layman from the Diocese of Rome who died in 1998 at age 28 after being struck by a truck while attempting to assist a motorist on the A1 highway. He served as a scout leader for Agesci and a Caritas volunteer. At the San Giovanni Battista De Rossi parish, he organized the Thursday circuit to provide food and comfort to homeless people at Roman train stations. His volunteer work included service in Umbria following an earthquake, in Bosnia, in Romania, and in Ukraine with the Focolare Movement. A natural sciences student at Sapienza University, Cuneo also served as a municipal councilor.

Postulator Paolo Vilotta stated that Cuneo lived a life of service to others and maintained a contemplative life through frequent prayer.
