Patriarch Nona addresses ecumenical meeting in Sweden

Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Paul III Nona spoke at an ecumenical prayer meeting for Church representatives in Sweden on Friday, October 30, 2026. The gathering took place at the Church of the Virgin Mary in Södertälje and was led by Bishop Saad Seroub, with the participation of Bishop Mar Azad Sabri.

During his address, Patriarch Nona stated that Christian unity begins with building trust and mutual love rather than through theological dialogues or formal agreements. He said that the presence of different traditions and rites does not cause division but represents spiritual richness, comparing various traditions to different colors through which a single light passes.

The Patriarch noted that ecumenism does not require one Church to merge into another or to abandon its specific identity. He argued that Churches are members of one body under Christ rather than competing institutions seeking followers. He concluded that the gathering of diverse traditions serves as a witness to the world and that Christian unity is a divine gift and a subject of prayer.
