Five Italian regions have now regulated assisted suicide following the approval of a law in Umbria
First source report
Marzio Bartoloni of Il Sole 24 Ore reports that Umbria joins Toscana, Sardegna, Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto in regulating these procedures. These regulations follow the criteria established by the Corte costituzionale in a 2019 ruling. Bartoloni states that these procedures apply to more than 15 million people, or one in four Italians.
The Associazione Luca Coscioni stated that 15,387,040 citizens, or 26.1% of the population, live in regions with defined timelines and procedures for accessing medical assistance for voluntary death. The Association noted that in other regions, the implementation of this right varies.
