Deacons Robert Tonkli and Philip Pham ordained in Sydney
First source report
Deacons Robert Tonkli and Philip Pham are completing their first year of ordained ministry in the Archdiocese of Sydney. Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP ordained both men as permanent deacons at St Mary’s Cathedral on 19 November 2025. They were the first new permanent deacons in the diocese since 2020.
Deacon Tonkli noted the welcome from parishioners and the guidance of his parish priests, Fr Josh Michels and Fr Anthony Casamento. Deacon Pham, who served in his parish for many years before his ordination, said the new role allows him to take on greater responsibilities within the parish.
