Pope Leo XIV began his visit to Paris on Friday by meeting with President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, at the Orly airport. After a brief greeting at the airport, the Pope traveled to the Élysée Palace for a private meeting with the president and a subsequent speech delivered to government officials, civil society, and the diplomatic corps.

During his address, which the Pope delivered in French, he established the central theme for his trip: the dignity of human life. Using the motto "So that the world may have life" from the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John, he spoke to authorities about peace, disarmament, and the protection of human life. He stated that protecting the right to life is the essential foundation for all other rights.

The Pope also addressed the concept of secularism, suggesting that a fair version of secularism does not require the exclusion of religion. He urged listeners to welcome life without conditions and to support fragile individuals with tenderness.
