Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media conducts sessions on social media usage

The Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media (DCSCM) in Goa conducted media education sessions for youth and adults across several parishes to promote safe social media use and prevent cybercrime. Fr. Barry Cardozo, the director of the DCSCM, led the sessions following invitations from parish priests in Bastora, Majorda, Corgao, and Canaguinim.

The training sessions targeted different groups at specific times. Fr. Andrew Mascarenhas invited Cardozo to speak to the youth of Bastora Parish on 12th July. Fr. Isidorio Fernandes organized a session for Confirmation students at Majorda Parish on 9th August. At Corgao Parish, Fr. Clifford Castelinho hosted a session for adults on 4th September following a Novena mass. Fr. Tadeu D’Silva SFX coordinated a session for Canaguinim Parish on 16th September.

During these presentations, Cardozo discussed how to use social media positively, measures to reduce vulnerability, and how to overcome various types of social media addiction. The sessions also included information on cybercrime and the safe, responsible use of artificial intelligence.
