Diocese of Campos highlights Mosteiro de São Bento's cultural and religious heritage

The Diocese of Campos highlighted the cultural and religious heritage of the Mosteiro de São Bento, noting its role in shaping the social identity of the region. Since arriving in the area in 1648, monks have contributed to local development and the establishment of the Catholic Church by building 36 churches and initiating catechesis.

Edvar Junior stated that the monastery serves as a guardian of the history and memory of Campos. The site includes an architectural complex consisting of a church, a residence for religious members, and an archaeological site with a cemetery.

The monastery also holds historical significance for local education. Dom Bonifácio Plum founded the Colégio Santa Teresinha, an institution that educated multiple generations of local families.
