Diocese of Parramatta launches new theological formation program

The Diocese of Parramatta is partnering with BBI-The Australian Institute of Theological Education to subsidize theological studies for parishioners. This partnership provides access to a nationally recognized Undergraduate Certificate in Theology, with the first group of students scheduled to begin in the first semester of 2027.

The program fulfills a commitment in the 2024-2028 Diocesan Pastoral Plan for a Synodal Church to strengthen the formation of lay men and women. Bishop Vincent Long, Bishop of Parramatta, stated that the 2023 Diocesan Synod identified substantial formation as a key theme to help parishioners participate more meaningfully in the mission of the Church. The pastoral plan includes a priority to sponsor equal numbers of men and women in studies of theology, ecclesiology, and pastoral models.
