Cardinal Mykola Bychok visits Ukraine

Cardinal Mykola Bychok, bishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Eparchy of Saints Peter and Paul of Melbourne, recently returned to Ukraine to attend a Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. During his trip, he visited several cities and spoke with many people. While visiting Kherson, the cardinal was present during a bombardment.

Bychok told The Catholic Weekly that Ukraine is paying a high price for its freedom and independence, noting that thousands of defenders have died for the future of their country and families. He stated that the struggle for freedom in Ukraine has significance beyond its borders.

The cardinal said the Ukrainian Church has gained experience by serving the wounded, prisoners of war, families, and people traumatized by conflict. He believes this experience may eventually serve the universal Church and other nations facing similar wars and conflicts.
