First source report
EWTN Global Catholic Network has appointed Ursula Murua as the next president of EWTN News, effective November 1. Murua, who currently serves as the director of digital strategy and social media for the news division, succeeds Montse Alvarado.
Alvarado has served as president and chief operating officer of EWTN News since 2023. She will transition to a new role after Pope Leo XIV appointed her in June as the prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication.
Murua has worked in Catholic media for more than 30 years. Her career includes leadership roles in digital, editorial, and broadcast operations, such as her work with the Spanish-language newscast EWTN Noticias. She has also led digital coverage for three papal conclaves, multiple World Youth Days, jubilees, International Eucharistic Congresses, and synods.
In a message to staff, EWTN Chairman and CEO Michael P. Warsaw noted that Murua's connection to the network began when she was 20 years old, covering a lecture by EWTN foundress Mother Angelica in Peru for the news agency ACI Prensa. Warsaw described the appointment as appearing designed by Providence.
