Bishop D. António Luciano presides at Mass for São Mateus

Bishop António Luciano presided over a Mass in honor of St. Matthew, the Apostle and Evangelist, on September 21 to mark the Municipality Day in Viseu. The celebration took place at the São José parish church and concluded with a solemn procession through the streets of Campo de Viriato.

During the liturgy, Bishop Luciano described the municipality as being composed of fertile lands, willing people, and many Christians, stating that every individual serves as an important stone in the community. He addressed modern challenges such as global armed conflicts and the rising cost of living, telling the faithful that while everything else can be taken away, faith cannot.

The bishop noted a lack of love for God, Jesus, and others in the modern world. He urged people to build more fraternal lives through families, schools, society, and local government, emphasizing that community and government actions should always center on the well-being of the human person.
