Trump announces permanent security control over Greenland

Donald Trump announced on September 18 that the United States has reached a security agreement with Denmark and Greenland to establish permanent control over security in the Arctic territory. The agreement is scheduled to be signed in New York during the United Nations General Assembly.

According to a U.S. State Department official, the agreement grants the United States permanent rights to access, bases, and military upgrades in Greenland. It reportedly allows Washington to build additional military structures without needing approval from Greenland or Denmark. The deal also prohibits non-NATO members, specifically Russia and China, from building military bases or making investments in sectors deemed sensitive to American security.

Trump stated that the United States will have the capacity to take necessary actions to defend Greenland's security without incurring costs to the U.S. government. The agreement must still undergo required parliamentary procedures before it officially takes effect.
