Inês Fonseca to lead the Catechesis Department in the Diocese of Guarda

Inês Alexandra Dias Fonseca has been appointed as the new director of the Catechesis Department for the Diocese of Guarda. In an interview with the Educris portal, Fonseca identified the reinforcement of the first announcement and the accompaniment of families as her primary objectives.

Fonseca stated that the formation of catechists, adult catechesis, and the catechumenate are essential priorities for addressing current challenges. She noted that cultural, social, and family changes, alongside regional issues such as depopulation and aging, make the mission more demanding. She also observed that many adults have become distanced from ecclesial experiences.

The new director intends to support the participation of families in the Christian education of their children. To address difficulties in transmitting the faith, the diocese will launch a new itinerary for the initiation of children and adolescents into Christian life with their families. Fonseca emphasized that the awakening of faith and family involvement should be progressive and accompanied by permanent formation and spiritual life.
